From 1978-2016, the Roy L. Hobson Memorial Trophies were presented to the male and female winners of the Hobson Memorial Race. The Hobson Memorial race was established in 1975 by Dorothy Hobson Krumm (1916-2018), her eldest daughter Sheila Dolsot, and son-in-law Beppy. Dorothy graciously sponsored the Hobson Memorial Race for many years to come.

The race was held in memory of her first husband Roy Hobson, and later in loving memory of Sheila who passed away in 1980. Roy’s granddaughters, Donnis and Rebecca, were both on the Sun Valley Ski Team in the 1970’s-80’s.

Since 2017, the trophies have been presented to the Fastest Female and Male of the Day at the now Gary Black, Jr. Memorial Race.

Award recipients’ names are engraved on the Roy L. Hobson Trophies, which are displayed in the SVSEF Training Center at Warm Springs.
