Since 1978… the Bonnie Russell Trophy was awarded to the Fastest U14 Female at the Roy Hobson Memorial Race. After 2016, it has been awarded to the Fastest U14 Female at the Gary Black, Jr. Memorial Race.
The family appreciated local sports and fundraising projects. In remembrance, the trophy was established upon Bonnie passing away from an illness.
Fun Facts, World Champion Bike Racer and SVSEF athlete, Ruthie Matthes, was the first recipient of this award in 1978 and 1979 and granddaughter of Roy Hobson of The Hobson Memorial, Rebecca Dolsot, also was a recipient in 1982.
Award recipients’ names are engraved on the Bonnie Russell Trophy, which is displayed in the SVSEF Training Center at Warm Springs.
