SNB Hits Targhee Slopestyle + Rail Jam for USASA Big Mtn West Series

The Sun Valley Snowboard Team was in Grand Targhee this past weekend. Coach Eddie Sawicz took 5 athletes to compete in Slopestyle and Rail Jam events for the USASA Big Mountain West series.

During Saturday’s Slopestyle event, Rory Gadhia put up a score of 73.33, taking 2nd in the Breaker Boys 13-14 group, lacing a frontside boardslide to fakie, switch boardslide, frontside 360 stalefish grab, backside 360 tail grab, and gap to lipslide on the final rail.

Charlie Theobald scored 71.67 in his second run, going 270 frontside boardslide, lipslide to fakie, cab 540, backside 360 mute grab, and gap to lipslide, taking home the 3rd place spot.

Other results from Saturday’s Slopestyle event were Bixby Swanger placing 4th in the Youth Men 15-16 group. Karsen Miller took 1st and Uzzi Almaras took 2nd in the Junior Men 17-18 group.

Sunday’s Rail Jam event saw Rory Gadhia take 3rd in the 11-14 Men’s group, with Charlie Theobald and Bixby Swanger taking 4th and 5th respectively in the 15-22 Men’s group.

Charlie Theobald also earned himself the Best Character Award during Saturday’s Slopestyle event. The event organizers and judges took notice of his great attitude, positivity, and dedication to the sport during this season’s events. This award was also accompanied by a brand new snowboard courtesy of Nidecker Snowboards.

“Everyone stood up their runs this weekend. Our athletes have been working diligently all season developing and progressing their skills on the jumps and steel (rails). Their hard work is paying off and watching them progress and become more technical is truly amazing!” noted Sawicz.

The team is preparing for their next events at Woodward Park City March 5th-7th.
