ALPINE

Arkoosh Cup

 

SVSEF hosted the 49th annual Arkoosh Cup at Rotarun, a dual event for local kids ages 5-12. Leila McGrew and Tommy Hovey were the overall winners. Both are U10 athletes; Leila had a final time of 24.1 seconds, and Tommy clocked in at 21.79 seconds. There was great turn out at the event, with 116 local skiers on course and plenty of family and friends to cheer them on.

USSA, Trudi Bolinder Memorial, Bogus Basin

 

U16 alpine athletes finished up racing at the Trudi Bolinder Memorial at Bogus Basin, an IMD qualifier. Highlights include a fourth and third for Jessica Blackburn, and four women in the top 10 for the super G on Monday, February 18. Jessica’s podium finish in third was followed by Hannah Ferris in seventh (she was also seventh in the super G the day before), Marit Kaiser tied for eighth and Anhwei Kirk in 10th. Nathan Gowe and Josh Blackburn went five and six in the first men’s super G. The next day, Josh was SVSEF’s top racer in eighth, followed by Nathan Gowe (10), Colin Hanna (12) and Nils Galloway (13).

FREESKI

Freeski Travel, Aspen Open, Aspen

 
Four SVSEF athletes are competing at the Aspen Open, a select event for which athletes must qualify. They compete on features and in the pipe used for X Games events. Will Griffith made his way into finals for big air, finishing ninth overall. Ridge Dirksmeier was 17th in the same event. In halfpipe, Harper Mallett was 15th, Ridge Dirksmeier 21st and Joey Markthaler 25th.

SNOWBOARD

Freeski Travel, Aspen Open, Aspen

 

SVSEF snowboarder Payton Bacca has been making the rounds at high-level Nor Am and FIS snowboardcross competitions in Canada. She made the podium in her first SBX competition at Big White Ski Resort, and was just off the podium in fourth the next day.

CROSS COUNTRY

Gold Team, SuperTour, Minneapolis

 
The SVSEF Gold Team competed in Minneapolis, at the site of next year’s World Cup venue. Peter Holmes nabbed two fourth place finishes, in the freestyle sprint and the 10km freestyle. Katie Feldman finished top-ten in all three events; she was seventh in the sprint, 10th in the women’s classic mass start and 10th in the freestyle distance.
