Strong results bode well for SVSEF athletes as we head into championships season

Three Super G (SG) races were held at Utah Olympic Park’s relatively new Super G venue for the recent Park City IMC Super G Qualifiers. The men raced Feb 20-21 and the women Feb 22-23.The series is a qualifier for U16 Regionals and the Tri-Divisional Championships.

“The UOP SG hill is demanding!” said Nate Schwing, SVSEF Alpine U16 Head Coach. “It was an awesome challenge that the group stepped up to. In just two days of racing and four runs down that track, I believe that everyone improved as a skier. The run-to-run progression was visible, and by the final race run, the group as a whole had found the confidence and belief to attack that hill with all they had!

At the conclusion of the series, SVSEF’s Conway Selznick had claimed three podium spots including a first, second, and fifth for the men. Teammates Tucker Reimund and Huxley Flood also raced their way to the podium. 

For the women, Elliot Leahy found a little more speed each day earning a third, second, and first place finish in the three respective races. Teammates Anna Taylor and Ava Huey each joined Leahy on the podium earning a fifth and a fourth place finish respectively in races two and three.

Up next for qualified athletes* on the U16 Team are the Tri Divisionals at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, WY and the U16 Regionals at Schweitzer, ID—both scheduled for March 18-21.
