Double Duals Overall Wins for SVSEF Freestyle Team at Roundhouse Rumble

Wells Dolson and Sylas Barrett battle massive moguls to bring home Dual Moguls titles

The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF) Freestyle team hosted the third annual Roundhouse Rumble Feb. 8-9 on Bald Mountain’s Roundhouse Slope. The competition welcomed 80 athletes from CA, CO, ID, and UT for two Singles Mogul events and one Dual Mogul event over the two days.

“It was impressive to see our community come together to help pull off the event with the snowfall we had just ahead of it,” said John Grigsby, SVSEF Freestyle Program Director and Coach. “Sun Valley received more than 40 inches the week of the competition, which made the course deep and challenging for sure.”

The two-run Singles Mogul event was held on Saturday. SVSEF’s Wells Dolson led the charge for the women with her huge airs and second fastest time down the course landing her in second place. Dolson’s teammate Isla Sundby barely missed the overall podium with her second run, just one point out of third place.

On the men’s side, SVSEF’s Will Hausmann came in second place nudging out fellow teammate Drake Lovlien by .14 of a point. Beau Forelli was really impressive throwing a Cork 7 off the top air for the first time, ending him in sixth overall. Sylas Barrett with his smooth style landed in eighth, Austin McMahan ninth, and Moi Bicas-Dolgen 10th with some of his best turn scores earning him a personal best.

By Sunday the moguls were massive and SVSEF’s Sienna Loredo had a great run with a big 360 off the top air and was the fastest female down the course, landing her in third overall—a personal best. Teammates Will Hausmann and Drake Lovlien took home another second and third overall.

The Duals Mogul competition was really impressive with Wells Dolson going head to head with Wasatch Freestyle’s Madiline Lin in the finals. Dolson had her off of the start and continued to pull away from her through the mid section. She threw a huge front flip off of the bottom which helped her pull further ahead for the first place win.

For the men, Sylas Barrett nudged out teammate Will Hausmann in the semi-finals to go against Justin Lim in the finals. Sylas had cleaner turns and air to take the overall judges decision and the top spot on the Duals podium.
