We’re back with Athlete of the Week! SVSEF provides ski and snowboard programming to nearly 700 athletes in the Wood River Valley. Athlete of the Week is an opportunity to highlight individuals who embody the values championed by this organization; sportsmanship, citizenship, character, teamwork, creativity, passion and perseverance.

Astrid Villa, Snowboard Team

Astrid Villa came to the SVSEF Snowboard program this season as a WRHS senior. Astrid had been a recreational snowboarder, but her passion for the sport had grown beyond that.
She has approached joining the team as what I like to describe as her “senior project.” She shows up every day with a smile and a determination to improve, which are infectious and noticed by her teammates.
Her improvements have been many, including hitting her first park features ever this season! What she is doing is hard, and she approaches it with the best possible attitude. She has been a great addition to our team and an example for all of the riders on our team!

Hunter Kari, Big Mountain X

Every day on hill with Hunter has been a telling experience about how talented of a skier he is. No matter what conditions you throw at him, he finds a way to adapt and progress. Hunter’s strong skiing fundamentals are a huge reason for his steady grasp of the Big Mountain scene. We’re all very excited to see where Hunter takes his skiing from here, because he’s going nowhere but up!

Anton Holter, Freeski Progression

Anton has developed some serious mental resilience and overall positive attitude throughout his time on the team. His work ethic and attitude allow him to learn at a quick rate while keeping his risk relatively low. He embodies what we as coaches strive to teach our athletes. Keep an eye out for this guy!
