Overview: Learn to Alpine Ski and Race (LASAR) is a program that teaches children of all levels of ability the joys of skiing. The objectives for the program include improving skiing technique through progressed turning, balance and body positioning, honing ski racing skills and developing self-confidence and the ability to work in groups with professional instructors and coaches. Athletes must be 5 years old by January 1, 2021, must have a USSA License, must be able to ride the Poma lift to Tower 3 and must have some skiing experience.

Overview: The Rota-Rippers program is an entry-level ski and snowboard program located at Rotarun Ski Area in Croy Canyon, Hailey. Rota-Rippers is a program that teaches 5-11 year old children the joys of skiing and riding. The objectives for the program include improving skiing and riding technique through progressed turning, balance and body positioning, honing skills and developing self-confidence and the ability to work in groups with professional instructors and coaches.  Our Rota-Rippers athletes are coached by SVSEF trained and certified coaches and volunteers; ensuring the best possible experience.  Athletes must be 5 years old by January 1, 2021.

CROSS COUNTRY DEVO SOUTH

Overview: No prior experience is required to join. The Cross Country Devo team takes new skiers from the first steps of learning how to put on their skis to competency in both skate and classic ski techniques, and builds on existing skills for those who already have ski experience. This program runs for three months in the winter- giving skiers an extended opportunity to practice their skiing. Devo South trains at the Quigley Nordic Center; SVSEF has a modular, which serves as an indoor meeting facility with gear storage for skiers. SVSEF coordinates after school transportation from the local public elementary schools to the training center in partnership with the Blaine County School District. (Due to COVID considerations, transportation is TBD for the 20/21 season.) The Devo team offers skiers the opportunity to participate in a variety of team outings in addition to our regularly scheduled practices. These include; backcountry adventures, the annual Bruneau Sand Dunes trip, winter backcountry yurt trips and the Intermountain Division Youth Championships.

Competition: The season culminates with our Devo Team Festival, held in early March; it is both a fun event and season athlete recognition party.

Requirements: No experience required.  SVSEF provides skis, boots and poles for participants. Optional team ski jackets, training pants and ski hats are available for purchase during the season.

License requirements: A US Ski & Snowboard general membership ($20) is required in addition to the tuition fee.

CROSS COUNTRY STRIDERS

Training sessions two days a week.

Mondays and Wednesdays 3-4:30pm

Overview: No prior experience is required to join. Striders is an introductory learn-to-cross-country-ski program for South Valley elementary age skiers, grades 1 through 5. This is a great opportunity for young skiers to learn the basics of ski sport. The Striders program runs for a much shorter duration than Devo South, it is only five weeks long at Quigley Nordic Center, from mid January through mid February. SVSEF provides after school transport from Bellevue ES, Alturas ES, Syringa School, and Hailey ES to training. (Due to COVID considerations, transportation is TBD for the 20/21 season.) All Striders athletes will be outfitted with ski equipment for the duration of the program. The coaching staff is always available to answer and problem-solve equipment questions for participants. Children should wear ski appropriate clothing.

Competition: Striders are invited to join the Devo Festival, held in early March; it is both a fun event and season-end athlete recognition party.

Requirements: No experience required.  SVSEF provides skis, boots and poles for striders participants.
