janss pro-am classic
APRIL 3-5, 2020
Held in memory of former Sun Valley Company owner Bill Janss, the Janss Pro-Am Classic has long held the reputation as the “best party on snow.”
Skiers and snowboarders of all abilities join forces with a pro to form a team of six; the squads go head-to-head in a dual giant slalom format on world-famous Bald Mountain. Racing is handicapped to give all participants the opportunity to win, whether they are World Cup racers or recreational skiers.
Did we mention costumes? Each Janss Pro-Am Classic event has a theme, and teams are encouraged to dress up and wear their costumes accordingly – on and off the slope. Prizes are awarded for Best Costume, Fastest Pros, Fastest Amateurs, Fastest Team, Lee Gilman Most Inspirational, Best Crash, and Championship Team.
Off-slope highlights include a hospitality tent at the base of Warm Springs where we serve breakfast and lunch on both race days, a welcoming cocktail party, gala dinner, and après-ski party and barbecue with live music.
The Janss Pro-Am Classic is held in memory of Mr. Bill Janss. A true renaissance man, Janss embodied the best qualities of the American spirit. He was dynamic, intelligent, fearless and kind, and had the vision and strength of character to boldly take Sun Valley Resort to the next level after purchasing it in 1964. Named to the 1940 Olympic Alpine Team, Janss remained a lifetime enthusiast and supporter of skiing and ski racing until his death in 1996. Because of Bill – his attributes, ethos and commitment to our community – the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation is proud to host the Janss Pro-Am Classic in his honor.
Created in 2014, Olympic Day is a way for the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation to unite our athletes from all six disciplines together for some good old-fashioned fun as well as celebrate Sun Valley and the SVSEF’s rich Olympic heritage and status as one of 17 official Olympic Training Sites in the United States.
