Team Overview

The Alpine U16 Team is a year-round training program designed to engage athletes on a multitude of levels. Members of the Alpine U16 team will be challenged by athletic demands, time management demands, and the mental demands of being a competitive athlete. During the winter months, Alpine U16 athletes will train six days per week when not at races. During the summer months, athletes are expected to work toward developing themselves physically in order to both perform at their best and stay safe during the winter months.

Combination of Strength and Conditioning, Field Sessions, and Ski Simulator Sessions

Tuesday – Friday, 1:30 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. (Early morning sessions added throughout the Winter)
Saturday & Sunday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

*All U16 athletes are eligible to utilize ski cross resources.

Pass & Membership:
  • Must purchase SVSEF/Blaine County Student Season Pass through Sun Valley Company for 24/25 Season.
  • Rotarun platter lift access included for all training days. If your child wants to ski all season on non-training days, Rotarun Season Passes are available online at rotarun.org.
  • Must purchase U16 and Over Alpine Competitor License from U.S. Ski & Snowboard.
Age:
  • Year of birth 2009-2010
Total Program Hours:
  • Off-Season (May-November): 130 Hours/ 6 hours per week
  • In-Season (December-April): 420 Hours/ 21 hours per week (Not including competition and travel)
Skill Prerequisites:
  • Must have completed (IMD Team) Race Travel in SVSEF, or with recommendation from Program Director
  • Must be able to ski all terrain in a variety of conditions.
  • Have basic knowledge of technical and tactical vocabulary.
Maturity:
  • Must be independent; able to conduct oneself appropriately when unaccompanied
  • Must be able to care for and maintain equipment
  • Responsible and accountable for hydration, nutrition, and proper layering
  • Complete knowledge of Mountain Safety Policies
  • Must adhere to SVSEF’s Code of Conduct
Equipment:

Skis: U.S. Ski & Snowboard legal equipment required for Giant Slalom, Slalom, and Super G; Must maintain equipment in good training/competition condition at all times.

Tuning: bench, vices, iron, guides, brushes, files, stones, waxes

Boots: must be properly fit (size/flex) and in excellent working order

Protection: slalom protection (pole, chin, and shin guards), and hard-eared FIS approved helmet required. Back protection may be recommended.

Team Lockers: Available to athletes U14 and older

Participation:

Athletes are expected to attend In-Season Training Sessions. In the case of scheduling conflicts, the expectation is that athletes or parents communicate with a coach of the planned absence.

Supervision:
  • While training locally, athletes 10 and older are NOT supervised for periods of time and may be required to take breaks, eat lunch, to ski and/or load chairs independently.
  • While traveling to competitions, the supervising staff members will make all efforts to ensure the safety of the athletes.
  • While on the road, all staff will be responsible for supervising athletes within reason 24 hours per day.
  • Bed checks and lights out will be strictly enforced.
Travel & Competitions:

Athletes intend to compete in age appropriate races and series. Some athletes may compete in regional and national events if qualified. Team Travel participants accountable for the share cost of athlete and coach travel.

Parents:
  • Required to attend parent orientation
  • Must actively communicate needs of athlete including planned absences and injuries
  • Must register for competitions in a timely manner per team communication
  • Must complete Team Agreement (Code of Conduct)
  • Must remain actively engaged with Team communication method(s) and check schedule/updates regularly.

Team Placement:

Participants may be required to switch to a more appropriate program, if available, at the discretion of Head Coaches and Program Director.
