If you take out U.S. Ski Team athletes and athletes who compete on the World Cup circuit, she’s second. Sammy is just 13 – with the success she’s achieved so far in the sport, she looks to have a long, promising road ahead. She is assertive, quick, smart in her skiing, and has an impressive level of body awareness and control. She is calm, cool and collected, to boot.
Sammy was invited to forerun the World Cup tomorrow at Deer Valley. The event features top U.S. and international freestyle skiers. “This is a pretty big deal, since it’s the FIS World Championships and there is usually a huge crowd in the finish area,” said head coach John Grigsby. “It’s going to be amazing to watch her push out of the gate on one of the gnarliest courses on the World Cup circuit. It’s a course Sammy has had pretty good luck on over the years; at divisional competitions, she was third last year, and first and second the year before (2017).”
Sammy is a two-sport SVSEF athlete; after she foreruns for freestyle, she will head over to Bogus Basin for two cross country JNQ races this weekend.
