Cross Country Assistant Comp Team Coach
Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, one of the country’s premier winter sports organizations, seeks a full-time/ten-month Cross Country Comp Team Assistant Coach. This position plays a vital role in developing competitive cross country athletes while upholding SVSEF’s core mission. Our mission is to provide exceptional snowsport programs for the youth of the Wood River Valley thereby enabling each participant to reach their athletic potential, while developing strong personal character through good sportsmanship, strong values, and individual goals.

General Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist the Head Comp Team Coach in successful implementation of the team training plan in all areas.
- Communicate with Head Comp Team Coach, Cross Country Program Director, and administrative staff of SVSEF all pertinent information regarding the team plans and experiences.
- Help ensure smooth and professional execution of all coaching responsibilities.
- Ability to work with multiple age groups as needed, U14-U20 and older.
- Attend weekly team training sessions and coaches’ meetings.
- Travel to IMD/National races and training camps as needed.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for youth athlete development.
- Show commitment to both athletic excellence and character development.
Other Responsibilities:
- Teach the art of skiing and ski racing with age-appropriate methods.
- Treat all athletes, parents, coaches and SVSEF Personnel with respect.
- Be professional, punctual and well prepared always.
- Ability to work independently, self-starter.
- Work to ensure the team culture is positive and productive.
- Assist with race-day waxing and equipment preparation.
- Committed to enhancing the experience for our SVSEF XC athletes.
- Foster a positive and supportive team culture that encourages athletes to work together and support each other.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire athletes of all ages and skill levels.
- Assist in the utilization of all facilities available to the SVSEF team and continue to teach our athletes best training techniques and tactics: Treadmill, Strength Facilities, SkiErgs, etc…
- Continue to learn and research new and cutting-edge training, technique, and team culture ideas and share with team and staff.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to work with youth athletes.
- Excellence in written and verbal communication.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Extensive Nordic skiing knowledge.
- Hold a current US Ski & Snowboard Level 100 coaches’ license.
- Hold and maintain SafeSport compliance.
- Possess First aid, CPR, and AED certifications (SVSEF offers this).
- Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Digital platform proficiency (Google Suite, Microsoft 365).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors in all temperatures and weather extremes.
- Assist at practice and competition sites, including the ability to lift heavy objects.
- Stamina to demonstrate and participate in training sessions.
- Available for weekend work during competition season.
- Ability to manage high-stress environments while maintaining positivity.
