Freestyle Devo is the developmental ski program for the SVSEF Mogul program and is also an alternative entry point for Park and Pipe athletes not yet ready for the Park & Pipe Comp Home Team. Freestyle Devo is for “Baldy-proof” kids ages seven and eight who love to ski (“Baldy-proof” is indicated by athletes who can ski top to bottom, both off-piste & groomed and understand safety rules and mountain etiquette). Our Devo training is focused on all-mountain terrain and basic skiing skills with a strong fundamental emphasis. There will also be introduction to mogul skiing as well as introduction to the Terrain Park. The Devo program’s competition philosophy is to introduce young athletes to the joy, challenge, and skill improvement opportunities that fun competition can offer. There will be number of events where athletes can compete and explore these concepts, such as our Future Freestyler and Future Slopestyler festivals.
Athletes must be 7 years old by December 1, 2016.
Athletes must be able to ski comfortably on Baldy.
Athletes should be able to participate on both Saturdays and Sundays during the ski season.
A USSA Youth license is required.
Objectives associated with SVSEF entry-level programs:
Create strong peer relationships/group dynamics.
Instill respect for people, places and property.
Foster a respect for the mountains, the resort and the personnel involved.
Build confidence to ski all types of terrain and turn shapes.
Expose young skiers to snow sport competitions.
Provide young skiers with a fundamental skiing base, which is critical for future snow sport success.
Dryland will be available one day per week in the fall beginning November 7. This training will focus on the Air Barn as well as physical fitness. Please check in with John Grigsby for the exact times/locations of training.
SVSEF HOLIDAY CAMPS
Devo athletes are invited to participate in additional on-snow training during holidays and summer/fall Air Barn camps at an additional cost. These opportunities will be communicated well in advance.
