Seasonal Freeski Team Coaches

Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF) is currently looking to hire seasonal Freeskiing coaches. The role requires knowledge of slopestyle, halfpipe, rails, all mountain ski skills, and team travel. The Freeski programs follow a progression-based format allowing the athletes to safely improve their skills at a rate they are comfortable with. Athletes utilize at-home and on-the-road training facilities, including the Air Barn, UOP, and Ski Camps in order to help progress and perfect their skills. Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Supports the sport of freeskiing and loves to ski.
  • Knowledge of slopestyle, halfpipe, rails, and all mountain ski skills.
  • Knows the names of tricks and grabs associated with freeskiing.
  • Provides safe, fun, and motivating training for competitive Freeskiers of all ages.
  • Teaches by example and possesses the ability to demonstrate basic park skiing tricks and all mountain skiing techniques.
  • Ability to teach basic trampoline progressions.
  • Works with other coaches to design, implement, evaluate, and adjust season-long training and competition plans.
  • Solid group management.
  • Ability to work in a team structure with other coaches and training groups.
  • Basic computer skills required and experience with Word, Excel, and Google Docs programs.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability.

Additional Desirable Experience:

  • USASA, USSA, IFSA, PSIA levels: 100, 200, 300 preferred.
  • Experience working with athletes in a coaching program or previous competition experience preferred.
  • Trampoline training experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Coach athletes to the best of your ability
  • Strong communication and organizational skills. Maintains frequent contact with parents on schedules and team updates.
  • Assists in team trips to other areas for competitions and camps where appropriate.
  • Responsible for assisting in managing, guiding, and mentoring all SVSEF athletes assigned to your supervision.
  • Be consistent in messaging your SVSEF teams – athlete expectations with regard to attendance, work ethic, and sportsmanship.
  • Assist with the competitions conducted at Sun Valley Resort and Rotarun.
  • Assist athletes/parents in the selection, sizing and acquisition of equipment.
  • Provide video and video review.
  • Uploading video to assigned digital delivery formats.
  • Taking care of team equipment and notifying Director if maintenance and/or replacement is needed.
  • Oversight and assisting athletes with equipment preparation at competitions.
  • If applicable – responsible for looking after athletes on the road including but not limited to: redirecting poor decision making, managing room curfews and room checks, following instructions, being safe and respectful, etc.
  • If applicable – respectful of rental vehicles and other company vehicles and trailers while on the road.
  • Ensure professional and efficient athlete and competition management at home or on the road, making sure SVSEF athletes are getting everything they need to perform well.
  • Coaches may have additional responsibilities due to team needs and personal skills / interests as per Director’s instructions.
  • Coaches for SVSEF should strive to see what needs to be done and do it!

Physical Requirements
Position requires on-hill and other outdoor activities that necessitate exposure to seasonal elements including snow, sun, wind, and extreme cold. May require lifting up to 50 lbs., shoveling and moving snow, moving equipment.
