SVSEF provides ski and snowboard programming to nearly 700 athletes in the Wood River Valley. Athlete of the Week is an opportunity to highlight individuals who embody the values championed by this organization; sportsmanship, citizenship, character, teamwork, creativity, passion and perseverance.

Maile Dorland, 14, Big Mountain

Maile Dorland jumped into the sport of big mountain and has been on the road these past few weeks. She spent weekends competing at Snowbird and had the opportunity to learn about athlete photography on a photo shoot in between competitions.  In her first competition ever, she didn’t do as well as she had hoped, however, she used it as a learning opportunity and she took home first place in her following two competitions! The night before her competition run she told me that one of her goals is to “get more air!” Great work Maile! You’re ripping it up!

Zeppelin Pilaro, 11, Freeski Progression

Zeppelin’s strong work ethic and persistence were on display at Snowbasin; he took home bronze in his division in slopestyle, as well as a gold medal in the rail jam. His attitude and mindset are topnotch, and it shows through his skiing. He is supportive of his teammates and keeps the energy level high. Keep up the good work, Zep! Gui Mattheis-Brown

Felix Wilson, 10, Cross Country Devo South

Felix has shown a high level of attentiveness and effort all season at Devo practice. He is a leader who constantly shows up with drive and focus; from game days to distance skis, Felix is always bringing his best, and he has really impressed us this season. Measured in his temperament, but a team player and down to have fun, Felix has been a joy to have on the team.
