SVSEF provides ski and snowboard programming to nearly 700 athletes in the Wood River Valley. Athlete of the Week is an opportunity to highlight individuals who embody the values championed by this organization; sportsmanship, citizenship, character, teamwork, creativity, passion and perseverance.

Channing Curci, 15, Snowboard Travel

Channing has shown tremendous growth, not only in her snowboarding but also in the way she interacts with her teammates. Channing is quick to give encouragement and also lend a hand when needed. The Wood River High School freshman is a positive influence on the group and helps bring the group together with her positive attitude.

Last week we needed to ride some younger team members up from the Devo Team, and Channing really made sure they felt welcomed and part of the larger Snowboard Team. This will have a really positive effect on a young team we are trying to grow! Channing is one to watch this season, and we look forward to all her accomplishments on and off the snow.

Thanks, Channing!

Tristan Boloix, 10, Cross Country Devo North

Tristan is a kind person and a hard worker; these traits are apparent every day at practice. At last week’s Winterstart race, there were multiple options for distances. Tristan opted to do three laps; despite getting mowed over by some big kids, he was right there in the thick of it with athletes four to eight years his senior.

Tristan also crushed the “Peaks and Pits of Lake Creek” by skiing up and down every hill on the Lake Creek trails in one practice – that’s a lot of K’s!

He is really curious about cross country, likes to challenge himself, and is a patient, kind teammate for the little guys to look up to. Gold star.

Zane Oliver, 10, Baldy Devo

Zane started with LASAR at Rotarun and last year he joined us at Devo. Zane works very hard, not only at his Skiing but he is a great teammate. He is seen in and out of the Lodge helping his teammates. On the slopes he will help any fallen skier. Zane has raised his level of skiing to the point last weekend “ I am Carving!!!!” Zane. Baldy Devo is way more than Skiing and Zane shows this. We look forward to watch Zane grow with SVSEF.

Will Griffith, 17, Freeski Travel

Will is naturally talented and a role model for our other athletes. When he is on and skiing his best, the crew gets stoked and follows his lead. It’s been fun to watch him grow and challenge himself in what he is able to do, and we can see that it is inspiring to those around him.
