2017-2018 Team Parents

For the 2017-2018 season, we are reintroducing the concept of “Team Parents,” with six designated representatives who will act as liaisons in support of team and organization initiatives. They’ll be resources for coaches and parents, so make sure you get to know them! We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to these individuals for volunteering their time and talents. Learn more Debbie Bacca, Cara Barrett, Ginger Ferries, Jennifer Goitiandia, Michele Gowe and Svea Grover, and their involvement with SVSEF.

ALPINE

MICHELE GOWE

I have lived here a long, long time and am a ski instructor for Sun Valley. Both my kids started in Mini World Cup. Natalie is second year North Series (U12), while Nathan is first year USSA (U16). We love SVSEF! My kids are always excited to go to team. The coaches are amazing. We are beyond fortunate. They share their talent, wisdom, and the joy of just plain fun. Being on the team provides a very unique opportunity. The kids are cheering on their teammates at the same time they are competing against them. They pull, push, encourage, laugh, cheer each other on because they are friends and teammates. Everyone is a part of it from ‘throwing down a run’ to bumping up in ability. Striving to be their best and havingconfidence to be encouraging and encouraged – this is what they take forward in life. What an incredible gift.

BIG MOUNTAIN

JENNIFER GOITIANDIA

I retired from Webb when the boys were born in 2003. Now I’m busy raising our twins, Ben and Joe. They’ve been skiing with SVSEF since they were 7 years old. Mike and I are so proud that our boys have become such great skiers. SVSEF has incredible and talented coaches! We love the whole team at SVSEF.

CROSS COUNTRY

SVEA GROVER

I am loving my real estate career with Engel & Volkers Sun Valley! I’m also a Cross Country Devo Croy coach and love getting to play in the snow with these kids a few days a week.

We have two girls – one on Cross-Country Prep Team and one on Cross-Country Comp Team…both started on the Devo Team in second grade, so this will be their sixth and eighth years, respectively!

This program and its coaches have given our kids so much over the years! It’s helped reinforce our family’s love and appreciation of the outdoors. It’s helped them develop determination, a strong work ethic and the ability to push themselves to reach high standards that will serve them well throughout their lives. It’s a great group of coaches and kids, and I can’t imagine a better influence during this important time in their lives!

MOGULS

CARA BARRETT

My son, Sylas Barrett, is on the Mogul Comp Home Program. In real life I am a recreational therapist. I work as the director of recreation programs at Higher Ground Sun Valley. Why SVESF? Our family had a passion for the outdoors, specifically skiing. Sylas has been skiing since he could walk and he loves to be on the mountain. My husband Weylin and I both work in the ski industry and we both see the importance of fostering this passion Sylas has for snowsports. SVSEF provides the professional instruction, safety and training that is helping Sylas improve his skills each day at his trainings. He gets up on the weekends excited about going to ski team and is craving more after ski team is over for the day!

PARK & PIPE – FREESKI

GINGER FERRIES

In “real life,” I am the owner and operator of Hound Around LLC, a dog services business that provides daily off-leash hikes in our beautiful mountains, overnight sitting and therapeutic canine massage. A few other things I love to do are yoga, ski, mountain bike, run, SUP, camp & backpack w/my family & see live music. I grew up skiing, learning at Rotarun when I was three and progressing onto Dollar & Baldy not long after. I love that my boys get to grow up and ski and here as well!

I have two kids in SVSEF programs: Spencer, age 11, is part of the Freeski P&P Comp Home Team and is in his fourth year with SVSEF. Sully is 8 and this will be his first year with SVSEF as part of the Alpine Devo Team.

SVSEF provides my kids with the opportunity to be part of a hard working team that teaches respect, discipline, focus and commitment where they can strive to do their best while progressing in their specific sport. These aspects not only support and guide them in their sport, but also provide a solid foundation of skills that they can build on in school and throughout life.

PARK & PIPE – SNOWBOARD

DEBBIE BACCA

I am a Project Manager/Admin Assistant for Hennessy Company, and Assistant Wedding Planner (Zen Master).

I have two kids on the Snowboard Team/Park and Pipe. Payton will be competing primarily in FIS Nor Am events this year with the hopes of qualifying again for Junior Worlds next summer in New Zealand.  Zoe will be doing the USASA events and will do her first Rev Tour this year.  Both had the privilege of learning the fundamentals with the SVSEF Alpine D Team and Doran Key. Because of the nature of their dad’s career, they later morphed into snowboarders and have found a passion and success in Boarder Cross.

We have had great support from SVSEF and their awesome snowboard coaches.  And I love volunteering for anything Jody has on her plate!
